What is SEO
SEO is an abbreviation for 'search engine optimization'. It is a
job where a webmaster optimize their web pages for search engine
in order to archive a good position in their result page (SERP)
which means 'search engine result page'.
What is the benefit of doing SEO?
Well, as you know, most of the internet surfer use search engine
to find the document that they are looking for. By doing SEO job,
you will be able to increase your existency to the world and receive
more free targeted traffics without paying a penny. This will save
you up to thousands of dollars every month.
How can I optimize my pages?
There are too many factors that affect search engine ranking.
But what I will talk about is the basic techniques
- HTML coding - Make sure there is no error on it.
- Keyword density - Measuring keyword density, not to be
excessive on it. Use one or two will be enough.
- Meta Data - Giving the right meta keywords, descriptive
meta description and direct document title is very important in
doing SEO job. Be sure to include your keyword in the title, meta
keywords and meta description when doing it.
- Excessive advertising - Having a massive amount of affiliate
links or pop-up will tell crawler that your web site has no original
content or will annoy user browsing experience. Thus, most crawler
will exclude you from their index page. Especially Yahoo! Their
has a very strict policy and will not tolerate this one. Yahoo
seems to take it seriously as their value user browsing experience.
- Duplicating content - Duplicating your content over and
over again from one page to another or from other URL will tell
crawler that you are lack of content and will exclude your page
from being listed in their database.
- Doorway - Avoid this method just to increase your ranking.
You will get ban for sure. Doorway pages is developed only to
cheat search engine algorithm.
- Excessive cross linking - If you have a lot of web site,
try not to cross link one another excessively. You will be counted
as cheating as you try to artificially increase your link popularity.
- Alt tags - Be descriptive to describe an image as crawler
doesn't recognize pictures
- Title - Use title in your hyperlinks.
I had done all the above, why didn't I get a good ranking?
This is a frequent question which came across my mind. In order to
get a good ranking, search engine has their algorithm which is used
to rank web pages. It is a very complex one, and I believe there is
no webmaster who can really understand this. The most basic answer
is:
- Link popularity - You probably has not enough link popularity.
Try to do some link exchange with highly relevant web site. Not
to be excessive and avoid 'free for all' links. 2 -3 partner will
be enough
- Meta data - Double check your keywords. Make sure it
is relevant to your document.
- Duration - How long have you start your web site? This
is also one of the main factor that your web pages has not been
shown in (SERP). Sometimes it may takes anywhere between 8 - 12
months before you may appear in their (SERP).
I'm new to webmaster world, is it possible that I hire a professional?
Yes you are, there are bunch of professionals on the net. But remember,
no one can give you a guarantee that you will get top placement
on search engine like Yahoo and Google. Be aware, too much scam
out there where they convince their clients they can give #1 placement
on Google or Yahoo.

You can easily submit your web site to Google, Yahoo and MSN for
free. And also a good option for web directory is DMOZ and Zeal

and then click on suggest site
- Google.com - Type in your full URL. Visit

site
- DMOZ.org - Choose an appropriate category in their directory,
and then click on suggest site
- Zeal.com - Be one of their member by joining their survey
question and then submit your web site.
